Gifts of Love
(a true story)
On a cold December morning the
little girl searched everywhere
For the wicker pram, its paint
all chipped - dolly needed some air.
She wrapped the doll in an old
piece of flannel, well up around her ears;
She'd have to carry her, she guessed,
coming close to tears.
While on her walk the little girl
met up with Evelyn
Who stopped to show her doll with
hair, and, dressed like Evelyn.
The little girl held her dolly
tight to keep her from the cold
And wondered if, by circumstance,
her carriage had been sold.
On Christmas morning the little
girl went slowly to the tree.
Not sure, she thought, Should I
expect there to be a gift for me?
Her eyes lit up; she saw her pram
- all freshly painted, like new;
So Santa's elves had been the ones
had hid it from her view!
Her mother agreed she thought it
had been a very nice thing to do.
"I couldn't do much,"
said her mother. "This is all I have for you."
The girl took the parcel, and inside
- was a handmade dress for her doll,
A pink wool sweater, booties, and
bonnet, and a Mama-made, hand-knit shawl!
With tears of joy she held them
up for everyone to see;
The gift she would always remember
- she said, "With love from Mama to me."
